Vikalp’s journey began at a village wedding, where Amrit witnessed the struggles of marginalized individuals grappling with the Swachh Bharat scheme’s demands for household toilets. Despite assurances of financial aid, families faced significant strain, resorting to loans and pawning jewellery to meet construction costs. Delayed funds worsened disputes, prompting collective action. Villagers approached the Gram Panchayat, demanding resolution. Eventually, the Panchayat conceded, promptly disbursing Rs 9,60,000 to 80 families within a week. This infusion not only eased financial burdens but also fostered unity, leading to the formation of Vikalp, a proactive WhatsApp group committed to empowering communities through collective action. Vikalp’s genesis is a testament to the power of unity in adversity. It showcases how communities can overcome obstacles and realize their aspirations through collective resolve. By empowering vulnerable groups, Vikalp serves as an inspiring beacon of communal efforts, demonstrating the transformative potential of collective action in improving lives and fostering awareness among marginalized communities.
